Studies from the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology state that women who were around dogs throughout their pregnancy had babies with immunity from allergic eczema. This is a form of eczema that is caused by exposure to allergens. This is also called contact dermatitis and can cause rashes, itchiness, and even blisters.
Dr. Edward Zoratti states that when a woman who is pregnant is exposed to dogs before she gives birth, the risk of the baby getting eczema by two years old is significantly decreased.
This means that exposure to dogs can actually help with the protection of your baby. Not only will you be able to enjoy your pet’s company, but their presence will be beneficial for your little one.
There was also another study conducted regarding dogs and the protection that they can give to children from asthma. Apparently, dogs have a certain form of bacteria that has a protective effect on children. This particular bacteria helps prevent kids from experiencing symptoms of asthma.
Asthma is a condition that many kids can have that causes them to have difficulty breathing and doing activities like running or even sports. According to this study, your child can get protection from this just by spending some time with the family dog.
However, there are some precautions that you have to take when exposing your child to dogs and other animals. Although this can help them get protected from allergic eczema and asthma, some children who have allergies to animals should be careful. Their allergic reaction towards dogs can cause them more harm than good.
This exposure to dogs as protection is now being tested to see if it can be a possible therapy for kids with asthma.
